Grave Words

Dig up that grave again

throw that dirt up in the air

recall everything,

every crumb, every puzzle, every piece jammed into the cranium

a message sent, received, read, opaque silence

a gradual untuning, the tightening clockwise tension

bear grit, naked drag, road burn

strings snap, derailed, unfurled and curled

I think I still had it in for you

But you wouldn’t be convinced

You’ll never know

What promises were unmet

the moon could have been pulled

the asteroids and falling stars could have buried our eyes

Into ourselves, into one another

And now you are

barely nothing
