Summer Rolls

Summer rolls in
by the jingling of an ice cream truck
children flock in droves to try their luck
Summer rolls in
Like a Presidential parade
Making false promises
with artificial sweetened lemonade
Rolls in with a false sense of eternity
We remember
How we bared our hearts
on lava hot pavement
and scampered away
from the neighbors teeth baring dog
Climbing up into the trees
Falling asleep to a weepy sunset oil painting
Never had a summer love
Never had a summer job
Awake till the fire flies mated
Awake till the stars became supernovas
Sinking our teeth into watermelons
spit the iris seeds
beyond the sidewalk
beyond the horizon
beyond our dreams
